I worked as a quant in the City for years, specialising in structured credit, an asset class that’s slowly re-emerging as investors hunt for yield. I also co-founded both a credit derivatives product company and a small, niche software company that supports decision making in the physical asset management sector. In early 2012, I decided to take a sabbatical from the world of banking. Since then, I have engaged in a variety of activities, developing software within my own company (MML), providing consultancy services and also being a contributor to, and trustee of, a number of charities. The charity sector continues to face challenges as a result of changes in public funding. As an active trustee, I help identify and exploit other opportunities and, where required, assist with the cultural change needed to enable the transition from being dominantly publicly funded to being more commercial.
