DVLA Coding Challenge Sponsorship

One of the key aims of Prevent Officers in the Tarian Regional Organised Crime Unit is to deter individuals from getting involved in cybercrime. To do so, we have recently worked with the DVLA who have an annual coding challenge for 7-11 year olds and more recently 11-14. The challenge enables pupils to develop problem solving, communication and teamwork skills as well as improving their computer programming knowledge. The teams must build a game using a variety of coding languages in-line with a theme and we are pleased to say that we will be supplying the theme of ‘’Create a game to prevent the cyber-criminal from hacking into your computer’’ this year to both age groups.
Moreover, there is an opportunity for the teams & schools to win an array of useful IT equipment to develop these skills outside of the competition. These prizes are funded via sponsors/associates of the competition – prizes include Raspberry Pi starter kits, Lego Mindstorm kits, Micro Bit Inventor kits, Drones, Hard Drives and many more.
We believe that this challenge provides the opportunity that is lacking within the curriculum and ultimately develops/promotes skills that are hard to come by.
For more information about the competition, you can find it here at http://www.dvlacodechallenge.dvla.gov.uk/
Could I please ask that you are able to forward this on to the other cluster members so that they are aware of the competition and sponsorship opportunities.
Many Thanks,
Sam Griffin
